Teachers' Notes
Using the Maths Treasure Trails
Janice Staines, Education Officer, BECTa
Each Treasure Trail contains 10 questions, and a link to a site
on the Internet. To make best mathematical use of the Treasure Trails children should be
encouraged to work in small groups and to take their time over finding the answers and
completing the Treasure Trail. Each link contained within the trail will direct the
children to a site containing some mathematical element.
The children should take some time to fully explore and exploit each site rather than
'dipping in' to the site, finding the correct answer to the question then leaving the site
and rushing on to the next one.
This will need some planning on your part. The Treasure Trail does not contain any
provision for 'remembering' the children's responses, so as soon as they 'log off', their
answers will be lost. It will be a good idea, therefore, to encourage the children to
record their answers as they are entered so that next time they 'log on' they can quickly
re-enter them and move on to their new explorations.
At the successful completion of each treasure trail children can be rewarded with a
certificate.
